The Sunstone Estate Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were all hand-picked, de-stemmed and gently crushed to small open top fermenters, cold-soaked, and fermented an average of 10 days on skins. After aging for 18-months in French oak barrels, the lots were blended, filtered and bottled to 475 cases of 12/750mL bottles and 120 magnums in July 2016.
Milestone is named after the founder’s grandson, Miles Rice. The 2014 vintage marks our 20th anniversary since we opened the tasting room, a major Milestone for a small family business. Like Miles, this wine is very heady and bright, and strong and with many layers of complexity at an early age. Without a doubt, Milestone, and Miles himself, will gracefully mature into an even more balanced, smooth character over time. This wine displays classic Bordelaise characteristics, vibrant black cherries and earthiness, followed by smoked herbs, raisins, white pepper, soy sauce, sage and toasty French oak.
Medium bodied, with a nice balance of acidity and medium/heavy tannins make this wine appealing now, but will reward the patient collector if cellared properly until 2025, when Miles graduates college.
