This delicious blend showcases the best of the terroir we are blessed to have in the Santa Ynez Valley. The wine opens with rich, opulent fruit from the Merlot and Malbec components. Black Cherry, black raspberry, ripe plum, jasmine and oak dust dance in the nose. The Syrah provides accents of leather and grilled meat and the palate is round, full and fruit-driven. The wine finishes long, showcasing the ripe tannins the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon presented at harvest. This wine is ready to drink now, but will improve with age over the next 3-5 years.
This is a blend of rich and dark varieties, one that seeks inspiration in the wines of the south of France. Individually fermented by variety, the wine takes shape under the masterful guidance of the winemaking team. The result is spirited, wild and willing to break the mold, much like founders’ grandson, Mason Rice. Each individual lot was fermented in stainless steel tanks and skin extraction is artfully managed through a combination of firehose and sprinkler style pumpovers. Then, each lot was aged in french oak barrels, most used and neutral, to accentuate the strong fruit character of this blend.
