90% 2016 Grenache - El Camino Real Vineyard, Los Olivos
7% 2016 Merlot - Sunstone Estate, Santa Ynez
3% 2016 Merlot - Giff's Vineyard, Santa Ynez
Strawberries, Maraschino cherries, cranberries, red apples, rhubarb and white pepper are accented by bright citrus and a lightly sweet finish. This wine's medium body is framed by medium to high acidity.
The 2016 Grenache Rose is composed primarily of fruit from El Camino Real Vineyard near the intersection of Highway 154 and the 101 Freeway. On the morning of September 29th, 2016 the 8 ton handpicked lot was gently pressed off the skins and left to ferment on native yeast in stainless steel for over two weeks to capture the terroir that this famed vineyard provides. Once racked off fermentation lees the wine was left to age in stainless steel for 5 months. To add color and provide a more complex bouquet a 10% addition of 2016 Merlot saignee was added prior to bottling. On April 6th, 2017 the wine was bottled to approximately five hundred seventy-five 750mL cases and twenty-four 1.5L magnums.
Best consumed in its youth to enjoy the freshness of the wine, Sunstone’s 2016 Grenache Rosé will develop some additional length and body for up to 4 years in bottle.
