GRAPE BLEND & SOURCE
74% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre
Two vineyards in Los Alamos & three vineyards in Santa Ynez Valley
15 months in Neutral French Oak
Aromas of candied cherries, raspberry jam, dark fruit and floral notes on the nose are complemented by a bouquet of baking spices, nutmeg and clove. A subtle earthy character underlies the brisk acidity while flavors of plum skin, fresh strawberries, and black cherry tease the palate before culminating in a peppery finish.
Fruit for our 2017 “GSM” blend come from five different vineyards across Santa Barbara County with two in Los Alamos and three in Santa Ynez. The separate lots were hand-harvested at night and delivered to the winery in the early morning where they were de-stemmed and lightly crushed to separate fermentation vessels. Each lot was left to cold soak for two days before being inoculated and left to ferment for two weeks with twice daily punchdowns or pumpovers. Post-fermentation the lots were lightly pressed off the skins and left to settle for two days before being barreled down to mostly 500L puncheons. Each lot underwent a different amount of barrel aging with a weighted average of 15 months for the final blend. In March 2019 the lots were blended to taste, filtered and then bottled to 740 cases and 50 magnums in April 2019.
Our Rapsodie blend is always a fun, everyday drinking wine that pairs perfectly with anything you’re having…or any day of the week. Try this with braised lamb shank, a Moroccan tagine, or other spicy stews. Works really well with barbecued chicken and grilled sausage.
The 2017 Rapsodie can be enjoyed now and for up to an additional 4-6 years if stored in proper conditions.
