GRAPE BLEND & SOURCE
Happy Canyon of Santa Ynez Valley
pH: 3.14; Acidity: 6.1g/L; Alcohol: 13.5%
3 months in a combination of neutral French oak barrels and Stainless Steel
Notes of watermelon, bananas and strawberries dominate the aromatic nose, accented by subtle hints of roses and wet stone. The fruity aromas give way to a creamy mouthfeel featuring underride strawberries, citrus and honeydew that leads to a long, dry finish.
Grapes for the 2018 Malbec Rosé come from a young vineyard in Happy Canyon, the warmest region of the Santa Ynez Valley. These grapes we hand-picked at night to preserve natural acidity and help ensure a cold fermentation. Upon arrival at the winery the fruit was de-stemmed and crushed. The juice was then gently squeezed from the skins using a “champagne-style” press procedure to reduce the inclusion of harsh skin and seed tannins. The unfermented juice was homogenized with the lees twice daily while kept at 35 degrees for one week, releasing locked-in aromatics and creating a sense of weight in the wine. Once the wine was racked off the lees it was fermented in stainless steel for three weeks. Upon completion, the wine was left to age in a combination of neutral French oak barrels and stainless steel for three months.
Enjoy the 2018 Malbec Rosé with a variety of dishes, including Fish Tacos with Honey Lime Cilantro Slaw, Beet & Burrata Salad, or Spicy Chicken Curry. Also try lighter options like Spinach, Strawberry & Feta Salad, Bruschetta, and Cucumber Feta Bites.
The 2018 Malbec Rosé should be enjoyed now and for up to an additional 12 months. This wine is not a candidate for long term aging.
