GRAPE BLEND & SOURCE
La Presa Vineyard and Refugio Ranch Vineyard
4 months in 100% neutral American oak; then 3 months in stainless steel
Refreshing aromas of citrus, apricot and starfruit, accented by hints of tamarind spice and cedar with an underlying chalky minerality. Sugary lemon rinds, white peach and dried apricots abound on the palate, with notes of Asian pear, white tea and passion fruit leading to a crisp, lingering finish.
Our Santa Ynez Valley Viognier was hand-harvested in September 2019 from two vineyards within five miles of Sunstone. The grapes were whole cluster pressed to tank for fermentation and transferred to 100% neutral American oak barrels for secondary fermentation and aged four months. They were then transferred to tank for cold and heat stabilization. This Vineyard Blend of the two Viognier wines completed aging in stainless steel tanks for three months prior to bottling to 407 cases in March 2020.
Pair this 2019 Viognier, SYV with any spicy Asian cuisine. The natural sweetness from this wine balances out the tanginess from the dish. Or, try it with grilled chicken coated in a honey bbq glaze. For a lighter style, pair with a fresh butternut squash spring salad.
The 2019 Viognier should be enjoyed now and for up to an additional 18 months. It is not a candidate for long term aging.
